It’s just getting too late 

for any longer of a wait

I must get on with my day

wondering what is the delay

hoping nothing has gone wrong

perhaps memory lapse like an old song

that you carry the memorable tune

sing a word here and there but soon

lose the whole gist of the melody

and wind up singing a parody.

Who happened to house twenty

Cats at home, that’s plenty

He stated, but not one of them

Has a serious, unwanted problem

So they aren’t sent into a corner

Like Jack ‘plum pudding’ Horner

Instead they roam around at will

Loving life, their own shoes to fill.

tis a day to celebrate

twas born someone great

of you I am delighted to know

blow out candles, not the glow

carry the glow forever with you

until you reach the age of 102

or longer if you want .

Cat Came Back

Long ago on the Isle of Wight

Black cat Jess, at 3 years height

Disappeared from a garden loop

Found/Comforted the Ryde House Group

Assisted living folks needed the cheer

known as Tibby, Jess gave it for 14 year

Slowing down, Starting to grey, no more zip

Off to the shelter he went, scanned for a chip

Returned to a surprised Ms Bateman

Who still loved/ missed and gave him

The cat came back home needing some care

Time didn’t fade love from his home’s pair.

the wind of springtime blows life

around like pieces of a puzzle

promising seeds a new zip code

I wake with Puerto Rico

on my mind

back when life was different

than it is today

it all comes to me

colors, scents, sights

I planned to retire there

instead my brother came to me.

A few steps can be a walk

A few walks can fill a block

A few blocks can fill a mile

A few miles can cross a town

A few towns can cross a state

A few states can cross a country

A country crossed is the ocean An ocean stepped into may drown.

April is here I think looking out the window

It is supposed to be raining

But really, day after day after day

Then again landscapers need to be back at work

And rainy days are great for writing. . .

16. skeltonic

There was a cat

who got so fat

and when he sat

his rump went flat

so he rolled over

into the clover

butterflies did hover

moved onto the rover.

17. the moon

The moon so big and bright

sometimes tho it is just a slice

then clouds come floating past

creating a dark, almost full mask

then passes on by to reveal to us

the moon hanging in the sky since dusk.

18. open the window

Let the breeze blow in

clear the dust, debrie,

and leftover whatevers

Write about a small habit you picked up from one of your parents.

In summer Mom closed –arlene s bice

open windows at 10 am

pulled heavy shades down

all the way to truly darken  

later venetian blinds

needed drapes, also

to get the same darkening

I bought dark purple shears

to achieve the same

darkness

coolness

welcome on hot summer days.
